The winter session wrapped up a day earlier

The winter session of the Karnataka Legislature in Belgaum is ending a day ahead of the scheduled original schedule. This session which started on last December 19 is now being concluded on Thursday December 29 instead of tomorrow December 30.

Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri announced this yesterday Thursday. Kageri has clarified that the session is ending a day earlier as most of the members of the House have engagements tomorrow Friday.

Meanwhile, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is busy preparing to welcome its chief strategist Union Home Minister Amit Shah as he will visit Karnataka on Friday, while the main opposition Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and D. K. Shivkumar will participate in the bus yatra carrying the message of unity starting tomorrow from Vijayapura.

Janata Dal, the other opposition party, had minimal participation in the winter session in Belgaum. Because their main leader H. D. Kumaraswamy is on his party’s election tour called Pancharatna Yatra along with other party leaders.

The disinterest shown by the MLAs in all political affiliations is a feature of this winter session as they are thinking about the upcoming assembly elections and the preparations for it. Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri himself also expressed displeasure over the absence of many ministers from the House.

Apart from this, the participation of many MLAs was seen in the debates in the House. Most of the MLAs also expressed their reaction that their election preparations were hampered because they had to live in Belgaum when the assembly elections were just 100 days away.
