The negligence and apathy of the elected representatives towards the burning issues of North Karnataka was clearly exposed on Wednesday during the winter session of the Belgaum Golden Legislative Assembly.
Out of 224 MLAs in the Legislative Assembly, only 30 MLAs participated in the discussion on the North Karnataka issue.
Mainly MLA A. S. Patil-Nadhalli presented the problems of North Karnataka in the House. MLA Nadhalli demanded comprehensive development of the entire region along with implementation of Upper Krishna Project (UKP) Phase-III, which will bring 14 lakh hectares of land under irrigation in North Karnataka.
He said that the government should start this important project as soon as possible after resolving the legal issues.
