Belgaum: After the BJP got a clear majority in the Belgaum Municipal Corporation, the BJP established dominance in the mayor-deputy mayor elections. After this, there is now a fight for the position of the leader of the opposition party and there is a fierce tug-of-war between the Congress and other independent candidates for the position of the leader of the opposition party.
Belgaum municipality has a total of 42 corporators in the ruling group. The opposition party has a total of 19 corporators including 11 from Congress, 4 from Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti and 4 supporters of Congress Satish Jarkiholi. The corporator who has the strength of 10 corporators will be the leader of the opposition group.
The fight is on between Muzammil Doni and Babajan Matwale for the opposition group leader of Belgaum Municipality. Muzammil Doni has been supported by Seth brothers and Babajan Matwale by Jarkiholi. It has been reported that a dinner party was also organized for Jarkiholi supporters in a private hotel in the city on Saturday last week.
According to reliable sources, apart from the supporters of the Seth brothers, MIM’s Shahid Pathan, Imran Fateh Khan and independent corporators also participated in this dinner party. This has once again highlighted the differences between Seth and Jarkiholi.
There is a fierce tug-of-war between Muzammil Doni, a supporter of Seth, and Babajan Matwale, a supporter of Jarkiholi, for the post of Leader of the Opposition and it has been reported that Imran Fateh Khan has tried to mediate and bring about a consensus between the two. However, if the tug of war between the two parties continues like this, the possibility of Sahil Sangoli becoming the leader of the opposition party is being expressed in the political circle as the saying goes, ‘The benefit of the third in the quarrel of two’.
Meanwhile, Muzammil Doni, who has been elected three times to get the position of opposition party leader of the Congress in the municipality, is considered to have a tough fight and he has claimed that 10 councilors have given him letters of support. Meanwhile, information has also become available that Satish Jarkiholi, Sunil Hanmannawar and Raju Seth will be competing for the post of the opposition party leader.
