Belgaum : Due to the leakage of the Hidkal channel near the Kundargi sub-centre, there was a disruption in the water supply of Belgaum city. The L&T Company and Infrastructure Board have succeeded in removing the said leak and repairing the water channel and the water supply of the entire city will be smooth from Saturday.
Water withdrawal from the Hidkal Reservoir was stopped soon after the water line sprung on Wednesday. Moreover, the work of removing the leak was also undertaken. The leak removal work was completed at eleven o’clock at night. Water cannot be pumped immediately after repair.
It takes some time to wait. Therefore, water has been pumped from the Hidkal Reservoir in the early hours of Thursday, however, the city will be supplied with water smoothly from Saturday itself, the board informed.
Citizens expect smooth water supply in summer, but sometimes water shortage occurs in the city due to leakage of water pipe or interrupted power supply. Now the city’s water supply has been affected thrice in a span of three weeks. Due to the stoppage of water pumping after the leak, there was no water supply in the parts of the city where water was supposed to be supplied on Thursday. So now after the start of pumping water will be supplied to those sections first. However, it will take one more day to restore water supply to the entire city. In the month of January, the water supply of Belgaum city was disrupted twice.
The water channel in the Hidkal water scheme was leaking at five places. The water supply was shut off for three days to remove the leak. At that time, the people of Belgaon were in great distress. After that, within a week, the repair work of the electric pump at the Upsa Kendra in Hindalga was taken up. Therefore, water extraction was stopped there.
At that time there was water shortage in the northern part of the city. In the month of January, the water supply to the city was stopped for three days from 20th to 22nd. Now all the repair works in Hidkal Reservoir have been completed and water supply to the city will be smooth from Saturday.
