Even though the state government has offered a 50 percent discount for paying fines for traffic violations, only 38 thousand 691 cases out of 6.28 lakh cases have been settled in Belgaum city through e-challan. Only 6.19 percent of the total registered crimes have been recovered by this method.
6 lakh 28 thousand cases of violation of traffic rules have been registered in Belgaum city and out of which fines are pending, 38 thousand 691 cases have been canceled as fines have been collected. Through these crimes, a fine of 76 lakh 12 thousand 950 rupees has been collected by the traffic police.
Among the vehicles violating traffic rules in Belgaum city, two-wheelers have the highest number of violations and a total of 6.28 lakh offenses have been registered in this regard. The offending vehicles include vehicles registered from Belgaum RTO office, Gokak, Chikkodi, Bailahongal and neighboring states of Goa and Maharashtra.
Following are the number of offenses pending fine for traffic violation in the city. Helmet -4.12 lakh offences, signal breaking -1.20 lakh offences, triple seat two wheeler riding -45245 offenses and other 51205 offences.
A total of around Rs 26 crore traffic violation fines for all these offenses are yet to be recovered. This is why the government had given a 50 percent discount in the amount of fine till February 11 yesterday. However, most of the drivers have not taken the initiative to pay the fine.
