Mumbai: Famous actress Radhika Apte talks about playing the role of a housewife and secret agent in the spy comedy ‘Mrs Undercover’.
Radhika will play Durga, a former secret agent who becomes a housewife and is called back to duty after ten years. After marriage she forgets everything, she finds that going back is not easy as she devotes all her time to her family.
“For me, ‘Mrs. Undercover’ is special for many reasons. Not only is the spy comedy an unexplored genre in India, I fell into my role in the first iteration of this film. Durga is funny, kind, honest, she is perverse and unsure of herself, and the film is a journey to find her own strength, says the actress.
Radhika said that every woman can relate to her on-screen character Durga as it is the story of every housewife who gives up her career dreams for family.
“Every home has a Durga who quietly does her job and treating her as just a housewife does not get her what she deserves,” Radhika points out. “The film fights against the prevailing mentality in our patriarchal society and is beautifully done in the guise of comedy.”
Directed and written by debutant director Anushree Mehta, ‘Mrs Undercover’ features Radhika Apte in the lead role. It also stars Sumeet Vyas, Rajesh Sharma and Saheb Chatterjee.
‘Mrs Undercover’ will premiere on Zee 5 on April 14.
