The illegal setting up of private vegetable markets in the city should be thoroughly investigated and action should be taken against the culprits. Also, the Belgaum APMC Vegetable Market Traders’ Association launched a protest in front of the Municipal Corporation and submitted a statement to the Municipal Commissioner demanding that this private vegetable market be cancelled.
APMC Vegetable Market Traders Association staged a protest in front of Belgaum Municipal Corporation on Friday morning against the private vegetable market in the city.
The vegetable traders present on this occasion staged sit-in satyagraha and protested strongly. Announcements were being made at this time that the malpractices in the establishment of the private vegetable market should be investigated and the private vegetable market should be cancelled. Around 200 traders from APMC participated in the protest. On behalf of these traders, the leaders of the organization submitted a statement of various 24 demands including the above demand to the municipal commissioner. Accepting the statement, the Commissioner has promised to take appropriate action.
Talking to the media on this occasion, businessman Gajanan (brother) Shahapurkar said that when the APMC vegetable market was in existence, the previous BJP government had set up a private vegetable market. For this, the local MLAs in the government set up a private vegetable market next to the Pune-Bangalore highway. However, mistakes have been made by the Municipal Corporation and Collector’s Office while establishing this market. There has been malpractice in the establishment of this market. We demand that the culprits should be investigated and action taken against them and the illegal private vegetable market in the city should be cancelled, he said.
A copy of the statement submitted by the APMC Vegetable Market Traders Association to the Municipal Commissioner has been sent to the Chief Minister, Revenue Minister, Urban Development Minister, Regional Commissioner etc.
