Mumbai: The Nationalist Congress Party on Thursday condemned the incident in Pune’s Savitribai Phule University campus where a rapper gave permission to shoot an “obscene” song.
Leader of Opposition in Assembly Ajit Pawar has written to Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil saying that the incident has hurt the sentiments of people across the state and tarnished the university named after Savitribai Phule. He demanded strict action against all the culprits.
A rap song shot by singer Shubham Anand Jadhav alias ‘Rockson’ was shot on the campus last month without permission from the university authorities.
After the video was released on social media networks, it created a huge uproar in academic and political circles. SPP officials condemned the incident and later a police complaint was registered.
The shooting involved the singer sitting on the vice-chancellor’s chair, displaying bottles of liquor on the table in front of him and using abusive and offensive words. These clips went viral on social media. Following a complaint by the students’ union, on April 15, a case was registered against the rapper at the Chatursringi police station and an investigation was initiated.
