New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the West Bengal government’s May 8 order banning the screening of the film “The Kerala Story”.
A bench headed by Chief Justice D.Y Chandrachud and Justices P.S. Narasimha and J.B. Pardiwala said the ban in West Bengal was not justified.
A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said that since the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has given the certification to the film, it is the duty of the state government to maintain law and order.
The Supreme Court has taken on record Tamil Nadu’s assurance that there is no direct or indirect ban on the film ‘The Kerala Story’. The Supreme Court directed that adequate security should be provided in every theater and necessary arrangements should be made to ensure the safety of movie goers.
