Earlier, Google had laid off 12,000 employees as part of its 2023 job cuts. Now the American media has joined this line. Big media companies have announced massive layoffs. Among them are BuzzFeed, CNN and other companies. Among them is Vox Media. The company has reportedly laid off 7 percent of its workforce.
According to an AFP report, Vox Media later laid off employees as did New York’s Verge magazine website. Vox Media CEO Jim Bankoff said, ‘130 people in the company will lose their jobs. As a result, employees are being removed from many media teams and even from the editorial department.
Bankoff, who informed the employees about this, said, ‘Due to the economic downturn, our business and industry are facing problems.’

CNN first announced the job cuts on November 30, 2022. This is the largest number of layoffs announced since 2018, but it is not clear how many employees have been given pink slips.
On December 06, 2022, BuzzFeed had announced job cuts for 12 percent of its employees. The staff of sales team, technology team, production team and content team were given pink slip.
Apart from the above media companies, NBC and MSNBC have also informed their employees about possible layoffs. According to a CNN report, these two media outlets have hired double digit employees. About 75 percent of the candidates have lost their jobs.
Sources said that soon the Washington Post is also likely to reduce the number of its staff. But it is not known how many employees will lose their jobs.
