Penal action against hoteliers and food vendors for quality decline

Belgaum News : Diet, food grade and quality are regulated under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSAI) and regulations are also laid down.

But it has been pointed out that some hoteliers and street food vendors in Belgaum are not maintaining food safety and quality without following the rules and in this regard a meeting of Food Safety and Quality Authority was called under the chairmanship of District Collector Nitesh Patil.

In this meeting, the District Collector warned hotel drivers, owners and roadside food vendors to test the quality of food items frequently, and if any errors are found, fines will be imposed along with action.

A fine of Rs 1 lakh 14 thousand has been imposed on hotels in Belgaum this year due to errors in food quality and standard and it has been found that banned ingredients like Ajinomoto were used in cooking in some hotels. The district collector has ordered to lock such hotels and shops.

The fast food business has seen a huge growth in the recent times. There has been an increase in the number of hotels, canteens and roadside food vendors serving food and this business requires FSSAI certification.

But it is equally important to check the quality of food from time to time and also provide nutritious and healthy food. However, some food sellers and businessmen are found to be violating the rules and the authorities of Food Safety and Quality Authority should also be aware of this and instruct the food sellers to test the quality of food items frequently from time to time.
