Regarding the filling up of the posts of assistant professors (assistant professors) who perform teaching duties in first class colleges and postgraduate centers, PhD is not mandatory to apply for this post, University Grants Commission Chairman Prof M Jagdish Kumar has informed.

While inaugurating the UGC-HRDC building in the Osmania University premises in Hyderabad yesterday, he said, ‘To be appointed to the posts of assistant professors and professors in graduate colleges and universities, it is enough for the candidates to pass the National Eligibility Test (NET) along with the master’s degree. PhD is not mandatory.

He said that the University Grants Commission’s data portal development and guidelines have been uploaded soon under the One Nation One Data Portal scheme.

Till now PhD degree along with NET was mandatory to apply for Assistant Professor and Professor posts. But the UGC Chairman’s statement has officially come into effect. What are the educational qualifications to apply for the post of Assistant Professor?
– Candidates must have completed Master’s degree with 55% marks in the subject relevant to the post. Handicapped Candidates must have completed Master’s degree with minimum 50% marks.
– Should have passed NET, KSET.
– Ph.D degree / MPhil degree holders are exempted from NET, SLET exam.
