North MLA Anil Benke assured immediate compensation to the shopkeepers who were affected by the fire near Kamat Galli Corner and those battery tire shops and wooden stalls.
Kamat Galli corner battery tire shops opposite the old vegetable market, the wooden shed behind it and the trees were badly damaged by fire between eleven on Saturday night.
The fire broke out suddenly between eleven on Saturday night and the fire spread so fast that it engulfed two battery shops, two tire shops and a wooden shed in between and two trees.
Around 11:30 p.m., police and fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and tried to douse the fire, but by then, shops, timber and trees had been consumed in the fire.
ACP N V Barmani of Market Division along with fire tenders and police rushed to the spot and tried to douse the fire. Belgaum North MLA Anil Banke also rushed to the spot at eleven o’clock in the night and instructed the authorities to put out the fire.
Meanwhile, during the ongoing winter session in Belgaum, Rahman assured the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai that he will inform about the damage and get immediate compensation.
In the outbreak of the said fire, two-four shops and a wooden shed were damaged to the tune of lakhs and the exact amount of damage will be known on Sunday. Meanwhile, the people of Kamat Galli area gathered in large numbers at the incident site at night.
