Visvesvaraya Technical University has denied admission to as many as 51 students seeking admission to the first year of engineering course after the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) certificate was found to be fake.
Surprisingly, the technical education department of the state government had allowed the admission of the concerned students. But while sanctioning college-wise admissions, Visvesvaraya Technical University (VTU) has noticed that the certificates of ‘those’ students are fake. We strongly suspect that there is a huge scam behind this.
Therefore, the previous admission process will also be investigated, said Vidya Shankar, Vice Chancellor of VTU. Now the admissions given on the basis of NIOS certificate in the last five years will be checked by VTU and written information will be given to the concerned state government and National Institute of Open Schooling.
According to the VTU officials, while verifying the documents of the admitted students, they scanned the QR code of the 12th mark sheet. At that time, they were shocked when it was revealed that the code belonged to a bogus website of NIOS.
¢The 51 students who have been denied admission are all from management quota and most of them are from reputed big colleges in Bangalore and some from Tumkur and Chikkabellapur colleges.
