Collector Nitesh Patil has advised the officials to take precautions and implement appropriate measures to ensure that there is no loss of life due to heavy rainfall or flood situation in the district as monsoon season is approaching.
He was speaking from the chairman’s position during the meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority held on Monday in the auditorium of the Collectorate of Belgaum. A disaster relief meeting should be organized at every taluka level in the district.
In that meeting, necessary preparations should be made accordingly by discussing about solving the problems that may arise during monsoon in the concerned taluk. Care should be taken that an accident like Bangalore does not happen in the district. Similarly, care should be taken to ensure that there is no accident in the matter of power supply. Care should be taken not to repeat the recent incident of loss of life due to a live wire falling on the ground.
Cleaning of drains and large drains in the city and suburbs should be undertaken immediately to ensure proper drainage of rainwater. During the rainy season, accidents are likely to occur due to gusty winds and rains that uproot trees along the roads or break tree branches. For this purpose, before the onset of monsoon, the district collector suggested to the tehsildar and the local chief officer that to overcome the current water shortage, clean drinking water should be supplied to the citizens by suggesting that the decayed trees and dangerous branches should be removed before the onset of monsoon.
At the district level, a control room should be set up in the Collector’s office for prompt assistance. Similarly, such control rooms should be started at every taluka level. The water level of all the rivers Krishna, Malprabha, Ghataprabha etc. in the district should be closely monitored. All kinds of advance precautions should be taken regarding boats, JCBs etc. equipment required for war level assistance. Collector Nitesh Patil also clarified that emergency centers should be established to provide food and drink to the people in flood-prone villages along with providing safe shelter. He also gave instructions regarding heavy rains and supplementary conditions by giving other information.
District Police Chief Dr. Sanjeev Patil, Distt. Pt. Chief Executive Officer Harshal Bhoyer, Sub-Divisional Officer Balram Chavan, Divisional Officer of Bailhongal Prabhavati along with district level officers of various departments and all Tehsildars and PDIs of the district were present in the meeting.
