Belgaum : In the wake of the upcoming assembly elections, there is a possibility of illegal liquor being transported from Goa to Karnataka during the election period. Excise Department has decided to set up special checkposts to curb illegal liquor traffic.
This decision was taken in a meeting of excise officials of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa on Monday. The meeting was held at a private resort on Jamboti Road in Khanapur taluka in the background of the upcoming elections and senior excise officials from Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka were present in this meeting.
Since the borders of Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra are adjacent to each other, there is a large amount of illegal liquor sales from here. Special checkposts will be established at necessary places to prevent it. Moreover, it was also decided to discuss the matter continuously among the officials of the three states and take a decision. Liquor is transported through Goa, Kolhapur, Sangli, Sindhudurg, Jat, Solapur and also from Goa via Ramnagar, Londha, Khanapur, Chorla. It was decided in the meeting to stay in constant contact with each other to prevent all these illegal liquor traffic.
In this meeting Dr. Additional Commissioner of Excise Department. Manjunath, Arunkumar, Jayaramegowda, N. C. Patil, Vijaykumar Hiremath, Ravi Murgod, Anil Nandeshwar and other officials were present.
