For the Vidhan Sabha elections which will be held in a period of just six months, the fight to get the candidature of the aspirants has started and as many as 7 applications have been submitted to the Congress for the Belgaum North Vidhan Sabha constituency. In this, three candidates from the Saith  family have filed their candidature applications and in view of the predominance of Muslim voters in the North Constituency, political sources are expressing the possibility of announcing an Urdu-speaking candidate from the Congress in the North Constituency for the upcoming elections.

Former MLA Feroz Sait  was defeated by BJP MLA Anil Benke in the previous assembly elections. After this defeat, Feroz  Sait has once again demanded the party leaders for candidacy. Former MLA Feroz  Sait, along with his brother Raju Sait and son Faizan Sait, three members of the same family have submitted applications to the Congress party leaders seeking candidature at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress office in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Azim Patwegar, the current municipal councilor of New Gandhi Nagar, who has served as a councilor for 2 times, along with Feroz Sait, who has held the post of MLA, Faizan Sait, who is working through Youth Congress and Raju Sait, who is working through Anjuman Society, is a senior leader of Belgaum Congress who has been working for Congress for the past twenty-five years. Hashim Bhavikatti has also demanded candidature.

Along with him, Sudhir Gadde from Kanbargi and Congress District President Vinay Navalgatti, a total of 7 aspirants have also paid a deposit . Former Zilla Panchayat members Ramesh Goral and Prabhavati C have sought candidature to contest elections from Belgaum South Constituency.

Why only the Urdu speaking candidates are eligible for the answer?

Belgaum North Constituency has more number of Urdu speaking candidates from Congress as out of total 275000 voters in this constituency approximately 70000 voters belong to Muslim community. And this is followed by Lingayat and Marathi community voters. Apart from this, in 18 constituencies of Belgaum district, as one Muslim candidate is required to be nominated, the candidate from the Muslim community is more likely to be nominated in this constituency.

Similarly, political experts are also of the opinion that since the Congress has more number of Muslim voters, it is necessary to give a candidate to the Muslim community, so the Congress gives preference to a Muslim candidate from the North Constituency. For the upcoming elections, 5 people including a corporator and a senior Congress leader have filed for candidacy from North Constituency with 3 nominations from the same family.

Moreover, the period for filling the candidature application has been extended by 5 days and there is a possibility that some more aspirants will submit their applications during this period. Meanwhile, political experts are expressing the possibility that the Congress will nominate the Muslim community for the North Constituency.
