Belgaum : Several accidents have taken place near APMC Corner in Belgaum in the past few months. It is a major intersection connecting Sadashivnagar Y Junction, Bauxite Road, Kangrali Khurd, Kadoli and all the villages in this area and last month an old man died in an accident at this intersection.
There was a demand that the traffic police should be appointed here or the signal system should be made operational. Finally, the traffic department has woken up and the signal system of APMC Cornernjeek has been started.
Since Belgaum Agricultural Produce Market Committee is in this area, there is heavy traffic of many heavy vehicles every day. Similarly, the number of heavy vehicles going towards the National Highway via Bauxite Road from Vengurla is also large. This is a big circle in this area and there is a lot of traffic in all directions.
There is a large influx of citizens and school students from the villages in the northern part of the taluka. Many accidents have happened near this circle which is covered on all sides till date. Vehicles coming from all directions pass through this road at high speed. Moreover, as there is no traffic police stationed at this place, it can be seen that the drivers are running errands. Last month, an old man lost his life due to a similar cause.
An elderly couple riding a bike was hit by a container. In this accident, the elderly biker died on the spot. APMC Police Station, Police Quarters and KSRP Police Ground are also located in this area. But till date no steps have been taken for traffic control at this place.
A cycle track has been constructed in this area. But the cover of the chamber on these tracks has been stolen and these tracks have also become dangerous. Moreover, due to lack of public awareness regarding cycle tracks, these cycle tracks are lying unused. APMC Circle is a link connecting all roads like APMC, Bauxite Road, villages in northern talukas, vehicles going towards National Highway and signal system was already installed at this place.
But due to the negligence of the traffic department and the administration, the signal system here was closed. Finally, the signal system of this circle is operational and the citizens are expressing their satisfaction.
