The post of Talathi Village Accountant, who is known as the last responsible employee in the government system, will now get the status of an officer. Talathis will be known as Village Administrative Officers (VAOs) and a revised order in this regard will be issued soon.
In the village housing program started by State Revenue Minister R. Ashok, he has taken this decision as he has seen that Talathi is the last and most important employee in the government system.
Talathis are appointed through District Collectors. Candidates who have passed at least 12th are appointed on the basis of merit. There are four revenue departments in the state and the regional commissioners of all the four revenue departments have previously given consent to call Talathi as officers.
Therefore, Talathis will soon be referred to as officers. Even though the ranks of talathis are changing as officials, the responsibility of their appointment will be with the District Collector. There will be no change in pay scale and duty responsibilities. Only the name Talathi will be changed.
