Journey of 2.55 crore women under ‘Shakti’

Belgaum : Under the Shakti free bus travel scheme for women released by the Karnataka government, as many as 2.55 crore women have traveled so far and the ticket price for women passengers has reached Rs 64.93 crore.

The “Shakti” scheme of free travel in the state by government buses for women in Karnataka, launched with the aim of empowering women, has met with greater response than expected. A total of 25504851 women have traveled in 9 transport department buses in six districts of Dharwad, Belgaum, Bagalkot, Gadag, Haveri and Uttara Kannada under North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation from June 11 to 30. 649344818 is the cost of the travel ticket made by women in these 20 days.

After the implementation of Shakti Yojana, the number of male passengers has also increased along with female passengers, resulting in an increase in the total number of passengers. Before the implementation of Shakti Yojana, a total of 174.84 lakh people, including men and women, had traveled between June 1 and 10. The daily average was 17.48 lakhs.

After the implementation of the scheme, a total of 4.74 crore people, including 2.55 crore women and 2.18 crore men, have traveled during the 20-day period from June 11 to 30.

The average number of daily commuters has increased to 23.68 lakh and before the implementation of this scheme, women accounted for 40 to 45 percent of total passengers, now it has increased to 55 to 60 percent.
