‘Barbie’ movie banned in Pakistan

Last Friday (July 21), many films in different languages were released in theaters, and Hollywood films such as Barbie and Oppenheimer films are taking over the world box office. Oppenheimer directed by Christopher Nolan and Barbie directed by Greta Gerwig are competing at the box office.

Cine buffs predicted that Oppenheimer would win and close opposite Barbie. But in the world box office, Barbie has been a big hit, giving Oppenheimer a tough competition and maintaining the lead. Thus, the Barbie film which is getting a huge response has faced a backlash in Pakistan.

There have been calls to ban Barbie in Pakistan. The movie shows LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer) elements and it is said that Pakistan has banned the Barbie film because it does not encourage these elements. At present, Pakistan has temporarily banned the film Barbie, and if the scenes containing these elements are cut, the film will continue to be screened, according to reports.

Not only in Pakistan but also in Islamic countries like Egypt, UAE, Qatar, Iran and Saudi Arabia, the Barbie film has been temporarily banned for the same reason. Not only this fact, but also because of showing the wrong map of China, the picture of Barbie was banned in Vietnam.
