Belgaum mayoral election in January

The corporators have been told by both MLAs of Belgaum that a new time has been found for the election of Belgaum mayor and deputy mayor and the election will be held in the first fortnight of January.

A meeting of the BJP corporators, who were upset because the mayoral election was not held, was held at Mahaveer Bhavan yesterday on Friday. The meeting was called by both MLAs of the city. Fifteen months have passed since the municipal election. Even though the BJP has a complete majority in the municipal corporation, the mayoral election has not been held yet. Earlier it was announced that the election will be held before last August, now it has been announced that the election will be held on January 6 or 9.

Officials have said that the legal problem in the mayoral election has been resolved. The MLAs present in the meeting also informed that the government and the Election Commission will announce the election program in the next three to four days, taking into consideration the opinion of the Advocate General.

Meanwhile, the issue of Belgaum’s pending deluge election may come up for discussion in the legislative session starting from December 19 in Belgaum. Opposition corporators have also become aggressive in the matter of mayoral elections. MLA Satish Jarkiholi has gone to the Municipal Corporation two days ago and discussed the opposition corporators.

Now, since it was announced in yesterday’s meeting that the mayor-deputy mayor election will be held in January, will this election be held this time? This has attracted the attention of the corporators.
