Bhutramatti zoo was established on February 10, 1989, in a village in Belagavi’s Kakati. initially, 12 deer and 3 nilgais were placed in separate enclosures. When more thought was given to the area, and its potential, 31.69 hectares of Bhutaramanahatti co-existent forests were carved out from the Bhutaramanahatti reserved forest and fenced. Henceforth it was appropriately named the Kittur Rani Channamma mini zoo.
It is located in a strategic area near Belagavi. It brings together many educational institutions and industries surrounding the city. Currently, many children come to the place for recreation and tourism, but with improvements proposed it would be a center of not only entertainment but also scientific management of wild animals and conservation education.
